About the Author
Mark Dugopolski was born and raised in Menominee, Michigan. He received a degree in mathematics education from Michigan State University and then taught high school mathematics in the Chicago area. While teaching high school, he received a master's degree in mathematics from Northern Illinois University. He then entered a doctoral program in mathematics at the University of Illinois in Champaign, where he earned his doctorate in topology in 1977. He was then appointed to the faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University, where he now holds the position of professor of mathematics. He has taught high school and college mathematics for over 30 years. He is a member of the MAA, the AMS, and the AMATYC. He has written many articles and mathematics textbooks. He has a wife and two daughters. When he is not working, he enjoys hiking, bicycling, jogging, tennis, fishing, and motorcycling.

This is a great programming book with respect to data structures and algorithms. The author have been able to gather all sort of interesting problems from all corners of computer science. If one is able to understand and internalize all the solutions presented in this book, one will, in my mind, become a solid expert, capable of solving any kind of issues that can be found in the field of software development. In writing comment for this book, I don't know what else to write beyond those good words that have been said about the book in the five star category. In that, I just want to add my comments regarding the use of Java and the math nature of the problems. First, even though Java is used to demonstrate the solutions, it's used very succinctly with just enough Java constructs to make the point, making the code snippets small - an attribute that all programmers can appreciate. Secondly, since Java is considered as a natural, neutral language , its actually a good choice to use in expressing problem/solution in data structure and algorithm topics, which the book is all about. The fact the author approach many solutions from a point of view mathematic makes the book more valuable because all algorithm concepts such time complexity, binary search, etc, are based on mathematical reasoning's. --Thomas R. Objective of this book is to present the ideas for solving data-structure and algorithmic problems. I request to go through the first chapter as it describes when do we (situations) get different complexities like O(logn), O(n^2), O(loglogn), O(nlogn), O(2^n) etc.. Once you understand them, remaining chapters looks easy as we refer these complexities at every place.

Best among the lot

Seriously this is such a good book to read. The code examples are really up to the mark. It is difficult to find this level of detail in most other interview preparation books and I mean even crack the coding. At the same time the book is comprehensive and simple. Especially KMP which is so easily implemented in the book. Hats off to the author. Great job, looking forward to more.

This is a really good book! It is not a Java book and the code is a mix of Java/C++ and has some typos but these are the only cons.
It has clear explanation of concepts and has lots of practical problems with full solutions!It helps a lot to become better in algorithms and data structures.I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Anthony D. Palma has had a long and distinguished career as an educator, especially as professor of New Testament, Greek, and theology. He has served on a number of Assemblies of God faculties, including that of its seminary. His degrees include an M.Div. from New York Theological Seminary and an S.T.M. and a Th.D. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. He has contributed to The Full Life Bible Commentary, Bible Doctrines, and The Holy Spirit in Christian Education; monographs include The Spirit: God in Action.

Dr. George O. Wood is general superintendent of the US Assemblies of God and chairman of the World AG Fellowship. He was assistant superintendent of the Southern California District from 1988 to 1993, after pastoring Newport-Mesa Christian Center in Costa Mesa, California, for seventeen years. The son of missionary parents, he holds a doctoral degree in pastoral theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Juris Doctorate from Western State University College of Law.

Theological Book on Pentecostal Position

Dr. Anthony Palma represents the heart of the new emerging breed of theologians in the classical Pentecostal position. Now retired, Dr. Palma was a distinguished professor at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO (AGTS).
This book offers a much deeper and more theological position of the Assemblies of God on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Most of this book was originally published in a small book form simply entitled THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. Several new chapters were added on the person of the Spirit and hence this book.
This is a technical book and a person not fimiliar with theology or theological terms would not enjoy this book. Dr. Palma also is a Greek scholar and will inject word studies in his chapters that so need them.
One of the main reasons to buy this book is Dr. Palma's dealing with the initial, physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (which he defines as speaking in tongues). Dr. Palma seeks to offer another approach to initial evidence while remaining classical Pentecostal in his approach. He also challanges the Pentecostal interpretation of John 20:22 as the new birth of the eleven disciples of Christ.
You will enjoy this book if you are seeking a deeper theological position on the Pentecostal view of the person and work of the Spirit.

An Excellent Biblical Study by a Pentecostal Scholar

Anthony Palma's book is one of several texts on the Holy Spirit from a Pentecostal perspective that I use when teaching on the topic. Others include Stanley Horton's What the Bible Says About the Holy Spirit (Rev. Ed., 2005), L. Thomas Holdcroft's The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal Interpretation (Rev. Ed., 1999), and books by reputable authors such as Roger Stronstad, James Shelton, and Robert Menzies, among others. Potential readers should keep in mind that Palma's book is through Logion Press, the academic arm of the Assemblies of God's Gospel Publishing House (GPH). It is in a systematic, textbook format, unlike Horton's book mentioned above which is published by GPH, but not through Logion Press.

Palma's text is divided into three general parts with 4 - 6 chapters each as follows: PART 1: GENERAL PNEUMATOLOGY - Chapter 1: The Spirit and the Godhead, Chapter 2: The Spirit in the Old Testament Period, Chapter 3: The Spirit and the Messiah, Chapter 4: The Spirit and the Church, Chapter 5: The Spirit and the Believer, Chapter 6: The Spirit and the Word; PART 2: BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT - Chapter 7: Introductory Matters, Chapter 8: Subsequence and Separability, Chapter 9: Initial Physical Evidence, Chapter 10: Purposes and Results of Spirit Baptism; PART 3: SPIRITUAL GIFTS - Chapter 11: General Considerations, Chapter 12: Individual Gifts - Part 1, Chapter 13: Individual Gifts - Part 2, and Chapter 14: Spiritual Gifts and Worship. The book also contains a Study Questions section at the back covering every chapter, a Selected Bibliography, as well as a Scripture Index and Subject Index.

As one can see from the chapter headings above, the book is comprehensive in scope, covering every scriptural topic related to the Holy Spirit. Although general pneumatology is covered which can also be found in good, conservative books by non-Pentecostal and non-Charismatic Christian theologians, the text does scripturally defend the Classical Pentecostal position, addressing not only the issue of Cessationism versus Continuationism (whether the "extraordinary" gifts of the Spirit have ceased or continue today), but also the important issues of whether baptism in the Holy Spirit is distinct from and subsequent to Christian conversion and whether speaking in other tongues is the "initial, physical evidence" of Spirit baptism. Whatever one's position is on these topics, Palma will certainly give one something to think about. As I mentioned before, I use Palma's book in conjunction with other Pentecostal texts and it is interesting that on certain issues (such as when Christ's disciples were spiritually regenerated) there are differences of opinion, even among Pentecostals. For example, Horton's book above supports the view that the eleven disciples (minus Judas Iscariot) were born again in John 20 which is prior to Pentecost, but after the new covenant was established at Christ's crucifixion. Palma challenges this interpretation. I reference both authors when discussing the issue. I highly recommend Palma's text which requires careful study and meditation. It will take you deeper into the Bible's teaching on the Holy Spirit than many other less academic books on the topic.

I gave this book five stars because it accomplished the task I was hoping it would. It gave me solid background and fresh insight into the Pentecostal perspective of The Baptism of the Holy Spirit! A must read for anyone who wonders whether speaking in other tongues ended with the apostles!

Since the authors are David Wood and Sean Ellis, you can bet the farm that there is an abundance of action, adventure, unexpected plot twists, and lots of verifiable learning opportunities. I read the audio version of this one, and still like Jeffrey Kafer's no nonsense delivery and vocal range.

About the Author

Chomsky matters. So does the Amazon/Audible choice of narrators. They blew that one.

It's not fair of me to knock the importance of Chomsky but that's what averaging reviews will do. The fact it this review is simply that the work was compiled and presented in such a profoundly dry and clinical manner that it was almost unbearable to a non-linguist. Really this is me calling out Audible/Amazon for picking someone more boring than Ben Stein to read the audiobook. I literally used it to fall asleep at night.

Good overview of Chomsky's work

This is a collection of some of Chomsky's most influential essays and articles, covering a wide range of topics from the role of intellectuals in the US, US foreign policy, Israel/Palestine, Anarchism, social movements, and a sampling of his linguistics work. Chomsky is one of the most profound and insightful social critics of our time, and this is a decent overview of his work.

Since some of the essays are excerpts of chapters in his various books, some readers familiar with Chomsky may find it repetitive. For someone completely new to Chomsky, I would recommend "Understanding Power" as a much more comprehensive, readable place to start.

Too Much Politics and Not Enough Linguistics

Mr. Chomsky is brilliant, blindingly articulate, and deserves an immense amount of attention and respect,
but for my money any volume entitled Essential Chomsky should strike a much more even balance between his linguistic work and political work.

I do not feel that this book is sufficiently representative of the likelihood that the evolution of language in primates, the impact of language on the social strucures of Homo Sapiens, and the monkey politics of our present day American condition are essentially all 'of a piece' in this great intellect.

That's my opinion, anyway...
