If you like the taboo, pushing boundries and being naughty then this one is great! Yes, its silly that the father pushes each time to extreme that wouldn't be realistic, but that's what is great. This is a fantasy, not real life. As for me, this book was AMAZING! All the times he was being inappropriate, drove me to the pleasing edge. Author, Kelsey Charisma always writes shattering good stories.

THE CLASSIC STATEMENT OF NEO-DARWINIAN EVOLUTIONARY THEORY

Julian Huxley (1887-1975) was a famous English evolutionary biologist and humanist. (He wrote books like RELIGION WITHOUT REVELATION, as well as the forward to Teilhard de Chardin's The Phenomenon of Man.) This 1942 book was one of the prime statements of the "Neo-Darwinian" or "Synthetic" theory of evolution, which combines Darwinian Natural Selection with Mendelian genetics. "Mendelian analysis ... together with selection, explains the progressive mechanism of evolution." Yet "Neither mutation nor selection alone is creative of anything important in evolution; but the two in conjunction are creative."

Huxley states, "By Darwinism I imply that blend of induction and deduction which Darwin was the first to apply to the study of evolution." Concerning Natural Selection, "In a broad sense it covers all cases of differential survival: but from the evolutionary point of view it covers only the differential transmission of inheritable variations."

Huxley's considerable literary style is evident throughout the book: "To continue our metaphor, the offer made by a mutation to the species is not necessarily the final offer."

Huxley is (shades of Teilhard) a believer in evolutionary "progress." Although "All that natural selection can ensure is survival. It does not ensure progress, or maximum advantage," "evolution may perfectly well include progress without being progresive as a whole." And "we are justified in calling the trends which have led to (Man's) development progressive."

He ends on the positive note, "The future of progressive evolution is the future of man."

This is an essential work for anyone interested in the development of evolutionary theory.

Creepy Tales!

These are awesomely creepy tales!

THE DREAM HOUSE : I wrote this so of course I love it! hehehe :)

BLOOD AND INK by Mindy McGinnis : Quite unexpected ending that may have sent me snickering (because I'm sometimes immature)--but I'm sure it's a horrific end for...some people.

THE SOUND OF THE CHAIN by R.S. Mellette : Okay, this one terrified me. I had that uncomfortable, inward-cringing feeling because, while this is not your typical blood-and-gore horror (there's no gore and it's still terrifying!), the idea of this story coming true to life is enough to curdle one's blood. The expert build-up of suspense had me on my toes, too. Well done!

A SECRET KEPT IN SHAME by A.M. Supinger : I had the pleasure of beta-reading this, and let me just say that A.M. Supinger knows how to evoke vivid imagery, as well as create intriguing characters that you can oddly sympathize with despite their villain status.

THE GODS WITHIN by Justin Holley : Justin Holley is a master horror writer (I have had the pleasure of beta-reading his novel-length works), and this one is grim and disturbing in a creeptastic way!

THE WILD HUNT by Sarah Glenn Marsh : I loved the suspense in this story, and not knowing where it was heading to, or what I was going to find in the end. And the ending didn't disappoint, bringing the story to full circle!

CORRUPT by Kim Graff : Disturbing on so many levels. How do you decide who's right and who's wrong, especially when you've been brought up to believe in a certain truth? This reminds me of cults and the brainwashing that goes with their teaching. Except there are no cults in this story.

TIME TO PRAY by E.B. Black : Another favorite of mine! I'm still unnerved by this.

LOST SOLES by Madeline Mora-Summonte : A bit heartbreaking. Very suspenseful.

THE TROLLS by Kay Elam: Loved this one, too. Strange and unexpected and excellent character voice!

THE ICE TREE by Charlee Vale : Pretty imagery with a sad, creepy conclusion.

LOST by Matt Sinclair : Short but emotion-filled. Honestly, I felt sad reading this. But there's also just the right amount of spine-tingling factor to close this anthology with that ending.

A quality variety of horror

Excellent choice for those who are looking to pee their pants. The great thing about horror, as a genre, is that people are frightened by different things; sometimes redundant tropes make it hard to get into a scary story, but this anthology has a nightmare or two for everyone.

I suggest reading it at night, under the covers, during a thunderstorm...:)

These aren't bedtime stories to read to your children!

This is the kind of book we used to read with a flashlight under the covers. It's scary, but not always in an obvious way. The twelve authors approached their subject matter from twelve different ways. I suspect I'll still be thinking about some of the stories in the days and weeks to come. The stories are short enough that they are a quick read, but long enough to leave a lasting impression. Not for the weak at heart!

incomplete coverage

i was/am looking for an indepth price and value guide. this book is pretty but not complete at all. i reccommend the Official Lladro Collection Identification Catalog and Price Guide by Dr. Glenn Johnson for serious collectors. If you can find it! Try Baron Rolen Jewelers in Stone Mtn. Ga.

Wow, I'm really surprised by the other reviews

I received this book the first day it was published and finished it that night. I have since looked back on it a couple of dozen times. The pictures are wonderfully done and in color which is a very nice change from the black and white of the official price guide. The author has a love for Lladros that shows throughout the book. I learned a great deal from this book. The section on fakes was incredibly enlightening and will prove to be helpful if I ever run across one. The section about if a restoration is worth while was certainly a eye opener. There are pictures of all the marks Lladro has used over the years and when they used them. It was very interesting to find out that my collection consists of only two different artists' work. That was an aspect of collecting Lladro's I had never thought of before but certainly found my collection reflects it. I did not find it to be an advertisement for dealers in any way. There are several listed at the end of the book but I didn't see them throughout the book at all. In fact I found the sections on buying from retailers, brokers or auctions to be very unbiased and in no way leaning toward any certain dealer or broker. If anything I walked away from the book knowing that I would not buy from a broker unless I had a specific need that would make the added expense worthwhile for me. Well, to each their own I suppose but I cannot imagine someone who truly read this book coming away with the comments below. I found the book well worth the price and expect to refer to it again and again for many year.
