Covering in detail both theoretical and practical perspectives, this book is a self-contained and systematic depiction of current fuzzy stochastic optimization that deploys the fuzzy random variable as a core mathematical tool to model the integrated fuzzy random uncertainty. It proceeds in an orderly fashion from the requisite theoretical aspects of the fuzzy random variable to fuzzy stochastic optimization models and their real-life case studies.

 

The volume reflects the fact that randomness and fuzziness (or vagueness) are two major sources of uncertainty in the real world, with significant implications in a number of settings. In industrial engineering, management and economics, the chances are high that decision makers will be confronted with information that is simultaneously probabilistically uncertain and fuzzily imprecise, and optimization in the form of a decision must be made in an environment that is doubly uncertain, characterized by a co-occurrence of randomness and fuzziness. This book begins by outlining the history and development of the fuzzy random variable before detailing numerous optimization models and applications that include the design of system controls for a dam.

About the Author

In 2014, winner of "Outstanding Book Award" by The Japan Society for Fuzzy Theory and Intelligent Informatics. Dr. Shuming Wang received his Ph.D in Engineering at WASEDA University, Japan, 2011. He was a Special Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Japan, and worked as a Researcher in Research Institute and Risk Management Division of China Galaxy Securities Co. LTD (HQ), Beijing, China. Currently, Dr. Wang is being with National University of Singapore (NUS) as a Research Fellow, he is also an Adjunct Researcher of WASEDA University, Japan.

Dr. Wang has published more than 20 international journal and conference papers in the fields of optimization under uncertainty, soft computing, and industrial engineering. He has also served as a referee for several international journals, including, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man & Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man & Cybernetics: Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Annals of Operations Research, International Journal of Production Research, and Journal of Global Optimization.

Dr. Junzo Watada is currently a full professor of Management Engineering, Knowledge Engineering and Soft Computing at Graduate School of Information, Production & Systems, Waseda University. He is the Principal Editor, a Co-Editor and an A

Entertaining, clear, and mathematically rigorous

I taught a 3-week course on cryptology to academically gifted high school students and I found this book to be the perfect source. It is very clear and actually quite entertaining to read. And yet, I was so happy to see that no good mathematics were sacrificed.
Each chapter ends with 20 or so exercises which are doable and really help one to gain a fuller understanding of the concepts involved.
I would highly recommend this book to both the lay person and the professional mathematician who are interested in an introduction to cryptology.

My friend and I did a project for school on Cryptology and Albrecht Beutelspacher was our savior!!!! If it weren't for this book we would have flunked. How does it compare?

I have read a wide variety of books with the same theme of Universal Truth that Dr. Bloodworth presents here. Prior to her work Napolean Hill's had the permanent honor of sitting on my nightstand. She has replaced him as my nightly life recalibrator. While some more modern books offer a more indepth analysis of the actual Universal process (Micheal Kiefer's comes to mind), I still prefer the unadulterated, "new concept" feel of early works like this. Definitely not a bare bones how to book like others, but with this subject matter do you really need that. What she has written speaks to the soul, even if the mind can't completely wrap itself around it. Great read, I highly recommend!

About 25 years ago, I was having a spiritual crisis. I was 22 at the time and just about to go insane. I met a total stranger (Harvey, if you're out there, I can't thank you enough) who just happened to have a copy of "The Key to Yourself" with him. He gave it to me and it absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, changed my life. I try to read a few pages of this book every day. It just feels good. Do I have to? No. But it is like taking a shower each day. You don't have to, but you'll feel a whole lot better if you do!

I CAN'T SELL THIS BOOK!

I was getting ready to list this book on auction, and gazed inside to get an idea of what it was about so I could communicate it's contentsIn no time I lost all track of time, and to heck with m auction. This book was so powerful the hair on my neck stood up as I read its words! After several pages, I went to the auction and cancelled this book's listing. No way could I sell this book I see above that many sellers have this listed for sale at a very low price. Amazing that such wisdom comes so cheap And a blessing This morning I woke up and was so excited!!! I picked up the book and started to read I got goose bumps I came to order copies for all of my friends. I am hoping we can all read it together and correspond with each other about its principles! Oh yes, the truth is out there. We can have our cake and eat it too We just have to understand the principles of how creation works When we do we get in the flow of things and life becomes easier We get what we want and what we need Oh yes, indeed I cannot sell this book! :D)

Good choice for beginning adult ESL students

This book, the first of a series of 4, fills a niche for ESL teachers and tutors looking to do concentrated work on the basics. The format is very clear and each one-page lesson builds directly on the previous ones, with reviews interspersed every so often. The book itself is divided into units that deal with a main grammatical concept; other concepts are used at the same time to expand the context and tie in with previously studied material.
An aspect that distinguishes this book from other grammar texts I have used is the repetitive format: the author believes in practice, practice, practice. For some advanced students this may appear redundant, but for those who are sometimes confused by new concepts this format works well to build confidence in their ability to learn.
New vocabulary is pointed out separately from the text, and the lessons build on previously presented vocabulary. The exercises also deal with real-life situations but without the daunting amount of new words found in other grammar texts.
Even the Table of Contents is organized in a way that makes it easy to look up lessons that deal with specific grammatical points. This makes it an excellent book to use as supplementary material for review, though I've used it with success as a core text.

Today, he is the Head Pastry Chef of the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong, boasting 6 Michelin Stars under one roof and voted Best Pastry Chef in Hong Kong for 2013. His family background, from the Rhône Valley in the south of Switzerland, brought him his passion for authentic food and especially for bread and pastries. Today, to perpetuate his family tradition and share his passion, Grégoire has published several books on baking and pastries; and enjoys organizing baking outing in the country side, using old fashioned wood fire oven to bake breads and tarts. A Spanish teacher must have

Spanish Teacher's Book of Instant Word Games: Over 160 Ready-To-Use Activities, Puzzles, and Worksheets for Grades 7-12 by Josephine Carreño is a must. Besides the many activities (that can be photocopied) to make a unit fun or to leave activities for a sub at the last minute, the unit about cognates is very thorough. It expands students vocabulary because it helps them recognize how many words Spanish and English have in common. It's also a tool for better reading comprehension because they learn also about false cognates at the end of the unit. Unit 1 is all about geography and includes a vocabulary of different words for the same object in different countries. My only criticism is the illustrations; they are not very attractive and some are rather obscure. From a teachers perspective this book is a good addition to any Spanish class.

Disappointed

I teach level 1 and 2 Spanish. I was very disappointed that I will not have a use for this book after I paid so much for it. The activities do not align with my text vocab or my State Standards. Some of the puzzles are confusing and the difficulty is beyond the 7 -12 ability. In order to use many of the activities I would have to modify them to the point that it is no longer worth it. If I had had the opportunity to preview the book first I would have never bought it. Shame too, because I am sure a lot of work went into putting it together.

too hard for lower levels, illustrations and print too old

I am always looking for ideas, and the price was OK, but the contents are really old and presented in an old-fashioned way, without graphic diagrams, charts or images. I can't use it with my Middle School kids. The type of print is like an old type writer, small and dry, and the illustrations appear handmade without much detail or description. Not useful for early High School either, when their attention is still so visually directed; also the levels and structures do not fit in with current contextual structure teaching. I kept it just in case, and because the shipping makes it cost more than it is all worth, but I would not buy it, and I will be reluctant to buy another book without the "look inside" feature
