Well sorry P.V. Spade, I like it!

P.V. Spade reviewed this translation back in the late seventies after its was first published and validates the two introductory essays as some of the best work he has read on the subject. Coming from his expertise this is big praise. However he denotes that Loux's intention for a readable translation leaves many technical errors and translational fudges in the work itself. My advice is to place these interdisperced errors in the back of your mind as you study the work. If you have read the secondary liturature on Ockham's logic this translation will be invaluable, especially if hacking through the original latin isn't a possibility. Some of the most modern scholarship concerning this text can be found in the Cambridge Companion to Ockham, epecially the first 5 chapters. A refresher on Aristotle's Categories will also establish precedent.

About the Author
Nicholas J. Garber is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Virginia where he has been a member of the faculty since September of 1980. Before joining the University of Virginia, Dr. Garber was a Professor of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Sierra Leone, where he was also the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. At the State University of New York at Buffalo, he played an important role in the development of the graduate program in Transportation Engineering. For several years, he was a design engineer for consulting engineering firms in London, and also worked as an Area Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer in Sierra Leone.

Lester A. Hoel is the L.A. Lacy Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Engineering and the Director of the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Virginia. He held the Hamilton Professorship in Civil Engineering from 1974-99. From 1974-89 he was Chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering. Previously he was Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Director, Transportation Research Institute at Carnegie Mellon University and on the faculty at San Diego State University. He also was principal engineer with Wilbur Smith and Associates and visiting professor at the Norwegian Technical University and the University of California at Irvine and a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley.

SMALL TEAM OPS!

Just Done Publishing has done it again with another outstanding title! This book is about Andre Diedericks exploits while severing with the South African elite 5 Recce and in particular with Small Teams. This book does a great job of covering the evolution of Small Team operations within the South African Special Forces, this is topic not covered in many other books, like the detail covered in "Journey Without Boundaries." But with that I also recommend reading the Rhodesian side of Small Team Ops in the book "Bush War in Rhodesia - The Extraordinary Combat Memoir of a Rhodesian Reconnaissance Specialist.

Diedericks was a true warrior elite with such a colorful background, this book does him justice and is a fine tribute to his life and legacy of Small Team Ops. If you like to read detailed information on tactics, techniques and procedures you will truly enjoy this book, there is nuggets of hard learned lessons throughout the book that most soldiers/operators can take away from the book and apply to their soldiering/operations. Do not to get confused from that statement there is a story here and it is hair raising at times, but I will not spoil it in this review, you will have to read about the exploits yourself.

The book itself comes in two versions. One is hardcover with black and white pictures and the second is soft cover with color pictures. I have the hardcover and the quality is outstanding the pictures are clear and crisp. I may order another copy in soft cover to see the pictures in color and if you prefer color you may want to order the soft cover. The last third (or so) of the book is all pictures which alone is worth the money of the book. The book also has an extensive glossary, index and is footnoted. This is fast read of a book and I can not recommend this book more to the military professional.

Another abosolute must. The selflessness and the dedication of the South African Recces is truely remarkable. These amazing solidiers gave up their lives for the plight of their country all for what? I have the utmost respect and awe for these remarkable men. In the eyes of most no other regiment will come close to the South African Recces in that time.....

An excellent book for anyone wanting to fly a microlight

This is an excellent book. Almost every microlight pilot in Great Britain will have a copy on his/her bookshelves. It is considered to be the microlight pilot's bible. I used it myself when learning to fly microlights, and still go back to it each year to remind the gray cells what I'm supposed to be remembering.
The chapters cover the theory of flight, how a flexwing flies, engine information, Air Law (applicable to UK and International, and although the US has a few different laws e.g. airspace, most is relevant in the USA).
It has an excellent section on Meteorology, Brian is an expert on the weather, and he has the ability to explain the basics in an easy to follow way.
Another section, on Navigation, covers traditional navigational skills, which will help a pilot to plot a course, stay on track, and recover when 'temporarily unsure of position'. Although the GPS seems to be the main method of navigation for many pilots these days, using traditional methods adds another fun dimension to flying. When the signal dies on the GPS, the map and compass methods will keep you heading in the right direction.
