Accessible yet comprehensive text for Students

Having bought this book for my psychiatry rotation at medical school I have found it to be an excellent text. It is easy to understand and accessible, while still providing enough detail to get me through the attachment and explain key concepts with little reference to larger, much more daunting, psychiatry tomes. It talks you clearly through different common psychiatric presentations (eg px with low mood or psychotic symptoms)as well as individual conditions. It also contains useful chapters on legal and pharmacological aspects. Finally I found the case studies and vignettes useful to put learning in context. The kindle edition is well laid out and usable on a wide range of screen sizes (4.2" Phone, 10" tablet and kindle). I would happily recommend this book to medical undergraduates looking for a text to help them through their psych attachments and exams as I say it's understandable and approachable but has enough detail to suit most undergrads.

Great Book!

This is the second volume of case studies using Master Tung distal acupuncture. It's similar to the first volume but with all new case studies. So if you liked Vol 1. than get Vol 2. but if you don't have any than get both. Brad Whisnant does an amazing job with this book. As far as I know it's the only case study book on Tung acupuncture which is a huge asset to anyone looking to study the Tung distal system. Dr Whisnant is a success acupuncturist that has been using the Tung system for many years and in this book he presents case studies from his own practice and explains how and why he treats. This is extremely helpful and it often feels like your with him in the clinic as he explains how he treats. I love this book because originally I found the Tung system confusing and difficult to learn because the other books I looked at presented very little theory and explanation, but Dr Whisnant pulls back the curtain and makes it easy and accessible to understand. I also highly recommend his first book "Mastering Tung Acupuncture" which goes deep into the basics and theory of Tung/distal acupuncture.

Fantastic books

Doing 4 days of a Tung acupuncture course earlier this year, transformed my practice. Brad and Deborah's books take this to the next level, with understanding the theory and combining points. I am constantly referring to the books to deepen my knowledge and get inspiration. Used the abdominal pain protocol last week and with outstanding results after 2 treatments. Worth every penny, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Love the diagrams for point location.

About the Author

Ann Hergatt Huffman is Associate Professor of Psychology and Management at Northern Arizona University. Dr. Huffman received her Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Texas A&M University in 2004. Prior to Texas A&M University, she worked as a principal investigator with the Walter Reed Army Research Institute-Europe. She was awarded the 2009 Northern Arizona University Most Promising New Scholar Award and was selected as a 2007–2008 Sloan Early Career Work-Family Scholar.

Stephanie R. Klein is the Solution Specialist at SHL in Minneapolis, where she has held a variety of roles including change management, product development, assessment and training program development, and client solutions consulting. Most recently, she led post-merger transformational change within the UK and Ireland sales organization. Her areas of professional expertise include transformational change and the ability to balance client logistics, scientific best practices, and technology capabilities to identify solutions to client business needs. Dr. Klein received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1998 and 2006, respectively, following her B.A. in Psychology from Kenyon College.

A wonderful book

I read this about ten years ago, when I asked friends to recommend the best books they'd read. It is the story of a young arab boy who was abandoned by his whore mother at his Jewish babysitter's, a retired prostitute herself who now cares for others' children, while they work or while they are on the run from the child welfare workers or in jail. The young protagonist is always told by the adults around him: " you have your whole life ahead of you" as if that is a wonderful thing. He looks at the old blind man who teaches him arab ways, the housebound old woman who cares for him, the transexual prostitute who lives next door... all the adults around him from whom life has stolen happiness, joy and health, and he considers the saying to be more a curse than a blessing. This book is a wonderful slice of life in the harder parts of post-war Paris, where he grows up, and discovers he does want to live life after all. Beautiful, haunting, and peopled with unforgettable characters. I highly recommend it.

When I read it for the first time 12 years ago it left a deep impact on me. And now it doesn't stop touching me. This is one of the most amazing books I've ever read. It would be also interesting to know about the author,Roman Gary(also known as Emile Azar) I highly recommend this book and hope you have time to think about life, childhood and love... as the author said at the end of the book, "Il faut aimer".

Charming and sad

This is a wonderful book written from the point of view of an 8 year old, Momo, an arab orphan being taken care of by an old Jewish woman, Mme Rosa, a survivor of Auschewicz. It's about how they support and protect each other in the slums of Paris (he's the son of a prostitute and she's an ex-prostitute.) There's much more to this novel than this review can cover. One of the best books I've read.

Same old, same old

I bought the 4th edition of this book back in October but dumped it because it seemed like it wasn’t written for the new bio AP exam format. It had lots of material that wasn’t on the exam and the practice tests were so NOT in line with the sample questions my teacher gave us that were from the new AP exam. Instead, I bought the Cliffs version and found it much, much better. Then I saw this 5th version of Barrons and the Amazon description said it was updated for the new exams. So I bought it because like I’m like the person you hate because I overkill studying. Updated? Hardly. Every page nearly word for word the same, including the exams which are so easy as to be nearly useless. Oh yeah, most stuff in plant chapter removed and chapter title for classification change to biological diversity. Too little change, too late.

Not worth your time.

An awful book that made absolutely no effort to mimic the AP exam.

The content is good, sure, it's biology, not much to be changed here.

The practice tests, however, are god-awful, they follow the old 1991-2012 exam and are in no way similar to the new AP Exam format.

The new AP exam, rather than being fact based, is application based, and this book is entirely fact based in its test.

Disgustingly bad, don't even get me started on the awfully formatted free-response question.

Look elsewhere.

I got a 5 with this book but there's something you oughta know.

While the practice exams were literally identical to the ones in the Fourth Edition, this new edition does a great job as a final review before the exam. I got a 5 using this review book for content. The practice exams are good to get a "feel" for the questions on the real thing (the multiple choice ones here are good). However, for free response, you will most likely be screwed if you used this book as its free response questions are in no way, like the new ones. Use Collegeboard Free Response Questions from 2012 onward. Some lab based ones from past years are of great help too. Extended Free Response like the 2011 Cladogram one was good. Overall good book, solid content, and good multiple choice. Lacking in Free response (use Collegeboard) and Labs (use CliffsNotes)

M. Synge, G. B. Shaw, Flann O Brien and Tomás O Crohan. This book also examines the response in Ireland to Böll s works, notably the controversy that ensued following the broadcast of his film Irland und seine Kinder (Children of Eire) in the 1960s. Dr Gisela Holfter (MA, Washington University, St Louis, Missouri, USA; PhD, Universität Köln, Germany) is Senior Lecturer in German and Joint Director of the Centre for Irish-German Studies at the University of Limerick, Ireland. She researches Irish-German relations, exile studies, contemporary German literature and languages for specific purposes (Business German). Her many publications on Heinrich Böll include the edited volume Heinrich Böll s Irisches Tagebuch in Context (Trier: WVT, 2010).
