Same old, same old

I bought the 4th edition of this book back in October but dumped it because it seemed like it wasn’t written for the new bio AP exam format. It had lots of material that wasn’t on the exam and the practice tests were so NOT in line with the sample questions my teacher gave us that were from the new AP exam. Instead, I bought the Cliffs version and found it much, much better. Then I saw this 5th version of Barrons and the Amazon description said it was updated for the new exams. So I bought it because like I’m like the person you hate because I overkill studying. Updated? Hardly. Every page nearly word for word the same, including the exams which are so easy as to be nearly useless. Oh yeah, most stuff in plant chapter removed and chapter title for classification change to biological diversity. Too little change, too late.

Not worth your time.

An awful book that made absolutely no effort to mimic the AP exam.
The content is good, sure, it's biology, not much to be changed here.
The practice tests, however, are god-awful, they follow the old 1991-2012 exam and are in no way similar to the new AP Exam format.
The new AP exam, rather than being fact based, is application based, and this book is entirely fact based in its test.
Disgustingly bad, don't even get me started on the awfully formatted free-response question.
Look elsewhere.

I got a 5 with this book but there's something you oughta know.

While the practice exams were literally identical to the ones in the Fourth Edition, this new edition does a great job as a final review before the exam. I got a 5 using this review book for content. The practice exams are good to get a "feel" for the questions on the real thing (the multiple choice ones here are good). However, for free response, you will most likely be screwed if you used this book as its free response questions are in no way, like the new ones. Use Collegeboard Free Response Questions from 2012 onward. Some lab based ones from past years are of great help too. Extended Free Response like the 2011 Cladogram one was good. Overall good book, solid content, and good multiple choice. Lacking in Free response (use Collegeboard) and Labs (use CliffsNotes)
