Great examples for USB design

USB Design by Example is an excellent approach to using USB - designs by example. I have tried several of the examples in both VB and VC++, and both are superb. On the embedded side, the explanations are both thorough and understandable.

I had a question about one of the example programs, so I emailed John, expecting an auto-response or hearing back in a week or so. He responded in ten minutes with the solution.

This is for a novice as well as an intermediate user of USB.

But most of them have been part of the standard programmer’s tool chest for decades.

Unlike the majority of textbooks in this field, this book takes a “code first” approach.  After a brief introduction of the concepts, a short complete ANSI-C program is presented for students to analyse. A number of questions arising from the code are then posed and answered in the Socratic format. In this way, we hope that the reader will not only become fluent in the concepts but also in the “nuts and bolts” of translating these concepts into functioning, efficient standard C code. Variable pointer diagrams are developed and used extensively to aid understanding of the more complex data structures and their manipulation.

Some of the animations are in the form of diagrams, while other animations are in the form of role-plays -- where people play the part of various elements of the data structure, illustrating how they interact.

Most books on this subject are dry and boring. To avoid this, we used an informal story-telling style, interjecting intersting stories and humour.

The best 10 minute home exercise plan for women of all ages

I first came across this book when I was in the American Air Force in 1974, it was used in Basic Training for the girls in the service. I loved the ease with which it could be followed, and the great results it achieved in toning and strengthening my body. It is applicable to women of all ages, and of all athletic capabilities, giving you an exercise plan from easy to hard at your own pace. It is too bad that it is out of print. It is more effective than most other exercise plans and requires no equipment at all.

Cheap, easy, fast, and it works!

I was about to order a $250 videotape exercise program when I realized that the exercises on the infomercial looked a lot like the Royal Canadian Air Force plan I'd followed when I was in my twenties (when I used it to go down four dress sizes). So I started doing this workout again, and noticed a difference in how I felt from Day 1.
I sit at a computer all day, and my doctor's been after me to break those hours up with exercise. Because this routine is so short, doesn't require equipment or changing clothes, and I don't have to drive anywhere to do it, I break up my day with the R.C.A. XBX workout instead of snacking.
Now my only questions are: 1. Why would anyone spend $250 on a videotape exercise plan? and 2: Why did I ever stop doing this?

Great Plan you can get for Free!

I've used this plan to great effect. It really only takes 12-14 minutes per day and you can get to a surprising level of fitness with just these exercises and perhaps some extra walking. It's not a miracle, but it is easy. It requires no equipment and the instructions are easy to follow.

I'd be careful if your back isn't that great-some of the exercises can provide a strain. I'd look elsewhere.

Please, though, unless you are looking for a collector's edition, don't pay money for this plan. You can download the pdf online, there's websites that track your progress and are free. If you can use google, you can find this information for no cost!

About the Author
Rodney R. Hutton is Professor of Old Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary (Columbus, Ohio). He is the author of Charisma and Authority in Israelite Society (Fortress Press, 1994), and co-author of Covenants and Care: Boundaries in Life, Faith, and Ministry (Fortress Press, 1998).

Helpful little volume on the prophets!

Hutton has written a helpful little introduction to the prophets. He accepts the prophets as real persons even if filtered by the work of later editors. The author accepts many standard tenants of historical criticism. Such positions as the sign of Josiah (1 Kings 13) being a "fabricated story," (34) and Isaiah's angel of the Lord an embellishment of a historical account show his anti-supernatural bias. Hutton continues to propagate the false dichotomy between oracles of judgment as marks of a true prophet and oracles of hope as indications of later additions. The primary message of each book rather than its structure or genre is the emphasis of the author's treatment and Hutton often provides helpful insights in his discussion. For example, his comment on Micah and preaching (verb nataf) is a nice summary. All in all the book is a nice read and would be quite helpful to any seeking an overview of the Old Testament prophetic books. It is especially recommended as a complement to some of the longer introductions.

It was easy to read and a quick read

This is the first book I'd read that sepcifically dealt with Old Testament prophets their likenesses and their differences. It was easy to read and a quick read. I loved it! I only wished it had covered more prophets, but it only covered prophets during a certain time period. I'd recommend it.

About the Author
Otfried Hoeffe is professor of philosophy at Eberhard-Karls-University, Tübingen and Director of the Research Center for Political Philosophy. He is a Fellow of the Heidlberger Akademie der Wissenschaften and Member of the Collegium Europeanum Jenense. In 2002 he received the Karl-Vossler-Preis of the Bavarian Ministry for Science and Culture. He is the author of many books, most recently Gerechtigkeit. Eine philosophische Einführung, Medizin ohne Ethic? and Kant's Kritk der reinen Vernunft and sits on the editorial boards of many scholarly journals.
